[세계뉴스] 정서영 기자 = 강동구(구청장 이해식)가 겨울철 추위와 배고픔으로 고통 받는 유기묘 및 길고양이 보호를 위해 공공기관 최초로 청사 옥상에 길고양이 쉼터를 마련해 눈길을 끌고 있다. 

강동구청 성안별관 옥상(성내로3가길 19)에 마련된 쉼터는 민간기업((주)현대건설)의 후원으로 조성됐다.

이에 강동구 수의사회가 길고양이 진료와 예방 접종을 담당하며, 사료전문업체 네슬레 퓨리나가 사료를 후원하기로 했다. 운영은 캣맘 등 지역 내 자원봉사자들이 맡는다.

쉼터는 구조나 보호가 필요한 고양이들이 임시적으로 머무를 수 있는 공간으로, 15마리 내외의 고양이를 수용할 수 있다. 구는 농림축산검역본부 동물보호관리시스템(http://www.animal.go.kr)을 통해 적극적으로 입양 및 분양 공고를 실시할 예정이다.

이해식 강동구청장은 “쉼터 조성과 운영에 협조해 주신 ㈜현대건설, 네슬레 퓨리나, 강동구 수의사회 관계자와 자원봉사자 분들께 깊은 감사를 드린다”며 “앞으로도 다양한 동물 복지 활동을 통해 사람과 동물이 조화롭게 공존하는 환경을 조성해 나갈 것”이라고 말했다.

강동구는 2013년 5월 전국 최초로 길고양이 급식소를 설치, 현재 61개소의 급식소를 운영하고 있다. 지난 1월에는 겨울철 길고양이의 안전사고 예방을 위해 차량 엔진룸을 노크하는 ‘모닝노크 캠페인’을 추진하는 등 길고양이를 위한 다양한 정책을 지속적으로 펼치고 있다.
